Regent Medical Centre and Broadway Medical Centre merged into one contract on the 1st April 2022.

What does this mean?

As of the 1st April 2022 the GP contract will merge however there will be a transitional period over the next 5 months in terms of update to systems and processes. 

April – July

The practices will continue to provide services separately with no change to surgery telephone numbers or the way that services are provided. 

During this period patients will only be able to access the surgery they are registered with.


We are awaiting a final date for the update to our clinical system.  The update will enable process changes e.g. booking an appointment at either site.  When details and a date of any changes have been established we will communicate out to patients with the information and what it will mean.

Would you like your repeat prescriptions to be sent to your chosen pharmacy electronically?  This can be set up very easily just ask at the reception desk. 

Do we have your current mobile telephone number? If not please see the Receptionist who can add it to your records, then in the future we can text you an appointment reminder.

The Practice is required by the Government to inform all patients of their own Named Accountable GP.  The Named Accountable GP for all patients at Regent Medical Centre is Dr V Kaura. However you are still free to see any GP of your choice.

Repeat Prescriptions

If the doctor agrees repeat prescriptions may be ordered by written request, by ringing our repeat prescription line or online from this website.

Prescriptions are normally available to collect after 14:00 the following day. We are happy to post out your prescriptions to you if you provide us with a supply of stamped addressed envelopes.

Online Prescriptions

You can order your repeat prescription on-line. To use the service you will need to obtain a user name and password from reception. Please ask for your log in details next time you are in the surgery. Once you have a user name and password you can access the repeat prescription ordering service by clicking on the link at the top of this page and it also offers the facility to view and print a list of repeat prescriptions or medicines and appliances. We now also offer electronic prescribing whereby you select a chemist and the prescription is automatically sent to the pharmacy ready for collection. It saves you from collecting your prescription from the surgery and then taking it to the chemist. 

Collection by Chemists

Many local pharmacies collect prescriptions on behalf of patients. Please contact your local chemist and ask if they take part in this scheme.

Equivalence - quantity of drugs allowed on each prescription

To try and eliminate any unnecessary waste the maximum quantity of most drugs prescribed on a repeat prescription is 2 months (56 days) supply, however certain drugs are limited to 1 month (28 days) supply only. Please consult the doctor if this creates a problem for you.

Generic Policy

Every drug has 2 names. It can be very confusing. For example NUROFEN is a trade name or marketing name, the generic or chemical name is IBUPROFEN. Similarly PANADOL and PARACETAMOL.

It is Government policy to increase the rate of generic prescribing. The Practice took the decision to prescribe generically, where possible, for all drugs over 8 years ago. Our generic prescribing rate is over 75%, one of the highest for any practice in Newcastle. It does mean some of the drug names are almost unpronounceable - it's as difficult for doctors and pharmacist as it is for patients!

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
