Get Your Autumn COVID-19 Vaccine

As we move into autumn, the protection from earlier COVID-19 vaccines may wear off. To help those at higher risk, the NHS is offering a free COVID-19 vaccine booster this autumn.

Why You Should Get Vaccinated

Vaccines lower the chances of getting very sick from COVID-19. Last autumn, people who got the vaccine were about 45% less likely to go to the hospital compared to those who didn’t. This protection lasts for about four months.

Who Can Get the Autumn Booster?

You can get the free autumn COVID-19 vaccine if you are:

  • 65 years old or older
  • Living in a care home for older adults
  • Aged between 6 months to 64 years and in a clinical risk group
  • A frontline NHS or social care worker, including those in care homes

You should get the vaccine about six months after your last dose. Even if you haven’t had a COVID-19 vaccine before, you can still get the autumn booster if you qualify.

What If You Have a Weak Immune System?

If you have a weak immune system, you might still be able to get the vaccine. You should qualify if you:

  • Have had an organ, bone marrow, or stem cell transplant
  • Take steroids for more than a month
  • Have HIV
  • Are receiving immunosuppressive treatments
  • Are getting chemotherapy or radiotherapy
  • Have had certain blood cancers
  • Have a genetic disorder that affects your immune system

Check your eligibility on the NHS website.

How to Get Your Vaccine

NHS England will soon announce how to get the autumn vaccine. We will let you know as soon as we know.

Getting vaccinated this autumn can help keep you safe from COVID-19 this winter.
