Spring 2026 COVID-19 Vaccinations – What You Need to Know

COVID-19 is still here. It spreads easily all year round. For many people, it causes mild illness. But it can still be serious. It can even be life threatening, especially for older people and those with a weak immune system.

Who can get the vaccine?

The spring 2026 vaccine is for people at higher risk:

  • Adults aged 75 and over (including those who turn 75 by 30 June 2026)
  • People who live in a care home for older adults
  • Anyone aged 6 months and over with a weak immune system

Why the spring vaccine is important

Your protection against COVID-19 can fade over time. This can happen after an infection or a vaccine. The virus can also change. This means your body may not fight it as well as before.

If you are at higher risk, a booster can help top up your protection.

COVID-19 vaccines work well. They help stop serious illness. They also reduce the chance of going to hospital. They protect those most at risk from dying.

Data from the UK in spring 2025 showed this clearly. People who had the vaccine were about 50% less likely to go to hospital with COVID-19.

Vaccines have saved many lives. They have helped us live with COVID-19 in a safer way.
